Is Sentry Down? How to Check Sentry Status Right Now
Sentry monitors errors for millions of applications. When it goes down, your team loses real-time visibility into production issues โ potentially missing critical bugs. Here's how to check Sentry's status, diagnose common SDK issues, and stay ahead of outages.
โก Quick Sentry Status Check
How to Check if Sentry is Down
1. status.sentry.io (Official)
Sentry's official status page shows real-time status for all services: Error Ingest, Event Processing, Alerts & Notifications, Performance Monitoring, Session Replay, and Crons. Subscribe to email or webhook notifications to get alerted automatically during incidents.
2. APIStatusCheck
APIStatusCheck aggregates status across hundreds of developer services including Sentry. Faster to check alongside other dependencies your app relies on.
3. Twitter/X Search
Search "Sentry down" or "Sentry events not showing" for real-time engineer reports. Developers often report Sentry issues on social media before the official status page is updated.
4. Direct API Test
Test Sentry's ingest endpoint directly: curl -I https://sentry.io/api/0/ A 200 or 401 response confirms Sentry's API is reachable. A connection error or 5xx means Sentry is experiencing issues.
Monitor your error pipeline, not just Sentry itself
When Sentry goes down, you lose visibility into production errors. Better Stack gives you independent monitoring so you're alerted to issues even when your error tracker is the problem.

Error Ingest
New errors not received โ your app errors silently
Event Processing
Events queued and delayed โ dashboard lags behind reality
Alerts & Notifications
Alert rules fire but no Slack/email/PagerDuty notifications sent
Sentry Dashboard
UI unavailable or slow โ can't investigate issues
Performance Monitoring
Transaction traces not captured or displayed
Session Replay
User session recordings unavailable or incomplete
Crons Monitoring
Scheduled job check-ins not tracked โ missed jobs go undetected
Release Tracking
Deploy notifications and release health unavailable
Why Sentry Events Might Not Appear (Even When Sentry is Up)
Before assuming Sentry is down, rule out these common SDK and configuration issues:
Rate limits exceeded
Every Sentry plan has event limits. When you hit them, new events are dropped. Check Settings โ Usage & Billing in your Sentry dashboard to see current usage.
Wrong or missing DSN
An incorrect DSN silently drops all events with no error in your app logs. Verify your Sentry.init() DSN matches exactly what's shown in Settings โ Client Keys.
beforeSend filter returning null
If you have a beforeSend hook that returns null or undefined for certain events, those events are intentionally dropped. Review your Sentry initialization code.
Network/firewall blocking sentry.io
Corporate firewalls, VPNs, or browser content blockers can block requests to sentry.io. Test from a different network or check browser DevTools โ Network for blocked requests.
SDK not initialized before errors occur
If Sentry.init() is called after the first error fires (e.g., during async module loading), early errors are missed. Initialize Sentry as early as possible in your app bootstrap.
Environment filtering
Sentry can be configured to ignore events from certain environments. Check that your environment tag matches an active environment in your project settings.
What to Do When Sentry is Down
Check status.sentry.io immediately
Verify it's actually a Sentry outage vs a local configuration issue. If Sentry shows operational, the problem is in your SDK or network.
Monitor your application logs directly
During a Sentry outage, fall back to your raw application logs (CloudWatch, Papertrail, Logtail, etc.). Critical errors still appear in stdout/stderr.
Set up a secondary error alert
Configure your logging library to send critical ERROR level logs to a separate channel (Slack webhook, PagerDuty) as a Sentry backup.
Check buffered events after recovery
Sentry SDKs buffer events locally and flush them when connectivity returns. After Sentry recovers, check your dashboard for a backlog of events that were queued during the outage.
Subscribe to Sentry status alerts
Visit status.sentry.io and subscribe to email or webhook notifications so you're alerted immediately when future incidents are declared.
Independent error monitoring backup for Sentry outages
Better Stack monitors your application endpoints independently of Sentry โ so when your error tracker goes dark, you still have visibility into production health.

How do I check if Sentry is down right now?
Check status.sentry.io for the official status. Also search "Sentry down" on Twitter/X for real-time developer reports. APIStatusCheck aggregates developer service statuses in one place.
Why are my Sentry events not showing up?
Most common causes: rate limits exceeded, wrong DSN, beforeSend filters dropping events, or a network/firewall blocking sentry.io. Check your Sentry dashboard usage and verify SDK initialization.
How often does Sentry go down?
Sentry experiences minor incidents roughly 1-2 times per month. Full ingest outages where errors stop flowing are rare โ about 2-4 times per year. Performance Monitoring and Session Replay tend to degrade more frequently than core error ingest.
Will Sentry buffer my errors during an outage?
Yes โ Sentry SDKs buffer events in memory and retry sending them when connectivity is restored. However, if your process restarts or crashes during the outage, in-memory buffered events are lost. For critical events, implement independent logging as a backup.
What's a good Sentry alternative if I need redundant error monitoring?
Rollbar, Bugsnag, and Datadog APM are popular alternatives. For open-source self-hosted error tracking, GlitchTip (a Sentry-compatible open-source alternative) lets you run your own instance.

๐ Can't Access Sentry?
If Sentry is working for others but not for you, it might be an ISP or regional issue. A VPN can help bypass network-level blocks and routing problems.
