Is Warp Terminal Down Right Now?
Warp is an AI-powered terminal for macOS, Linux, and Windows. Issues typically affect cloud features (AI, Drive, Sync) rather than the local terminal itself.

How to Check If Warp Is Down Right Now
- 1. Visit status.warp.dev — the official Warp status page
- 2. Check @warpdotdev on X for incident posts
- 3. Join the Warp Discord — #status-and-incidents channel
- 4. Try using Warp as a local terminal (without AI) — if it works, the issue is cloud-side
What Is Warp Terminal?
Warp is an AI-first terminal application available for macOS, Linux, and Windows. Unlike traditional terminals (iTerm2, Terminal.app, Alacritty), Warp has a cloud backend that powers its AI features (Warp AI for command generation and explanation), Drive (shared Workflows and Notebooks), and sync across devices.
Because Warp has both a local app and cloud backend, "Warp is down" usually means the cloud features are unavailable — not that the terminal itself has stopped working. The local terminal (blocks, command history, themes, multi-pane) continues to function during backend outages.
Warp Features: Cloud vs Local
✓ Works Offline / Without Login
- • Terminal blocks and input editor
- • Command history (local)
- • Syntax highlighting and themes
- • Multi-pane layouts
- • Local completions and autocomplete
- • SSH sessions
✗ Requires Cloud (Down During Outages)
- • Warp AI (command generation, explanation)
- • Warp Drive (shared Workflows, Notebooks)
- • Cross-device sync
- • Team collaboration features
- • Warp Agent Mode
- • Sign-in and account management

Warp won't open / crashes on launch
Try resetting Warp: quit completely → delete ~/.warp/ directory → relaunch. If that fails, reinstall from warp.dev. On macOS, also check Console.app for crash logs mentioning Warp.
Login / auth loop
If Warp keeps returning you to the sign-in screen: sign out completely → clear keychain entries for "warp.dev" (macOS Keychain Access) → sign back in. If OAuth providers (GitHub, Google) are having issues, try a different sign-in method.
Warp AI not responding
Check status.warp.dev for AI service incidents. If status shows operational, try: sign out → sign back in (refreshes AI auth tokens). Also verify you haven't hit your monthly AI query limit (check Settings → Account).
Corporate firewall blocking Warp
Warp needs access to: *.warp.dev, warp.dev, and OAuth provider endpoints. If your corporate proxy blocks these, use Warp in offline mode or ask IT to whitelist Warp's domains. Warp supports HTTP proxy configuration via environment variables.
Warp Drive sync not working
Drive syncs via the Warp backend. If Workflows or Notebooks aren't syncing, check status.warp.dev first. If status is operational, try: Settings → Sign Out → Sign In. Changes sync on next app launch — there's no manual sync button.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Warp terminal down right now?
To check if Warp terminal is down, visit the official Warp status page at status.warp.dev. You can also check @warpdotdev on X for incident announcements. Warp issues typically fall into two categories: (1) authentication/login problems affecting the Warp cloud sync and AI features, and (2) local terminal issues that are unrelated to server status. If Warp launches but AI features (Warp AI, Drive, Workflows) are unavailable, it's likely a backend service issue.
Why can't I log in to Warp terminal?
Warp login failures are usually caused by: (1) Warp auth service outage — check status.warp.dev, (2) Expired session token — try signing out and back in, (3) OAuth provider issue (GitHub, Google sign-in) — check if GitHub Auth or Google OAuth are having issues, (4) Corporate firewall blocking Warp's auth endpoints — whitelist *.warp.dev, (5) Warp app version out of date — update to the latest version. Note: Warp works as a local terminal even without login; AI and cloud sync features require authentication.
Is Warp terminal free?
Warp has a free tier that includes the core terminal experience, Warp AI (limited queries per month), and basic Warp Drive. Paid plans (Warp Team at $22/user/month) add unlimited AI queries, team collaboration features, shared Workflows, and Notebooks. The free tier is generous enough for individual developers — most users hit the AI query limit only if they use it heavily for code generation. Warp is free to download and use without an account for local terminal use, but AI features require a Warp account.
Why is Warp AI not working?
Warp AI issues are separate from Warp terminal availability. If Warp launches but AI commands fail: (1) Check status.warp.dev for AI service incidents, (2) Verify you're signed in (AI requires a Warp account), (3) Check if you've hit your monthly AI query limit (free plan), (4) Warp AI uses multiple LLM providers — individual provider outages can affect specific AI features, (5) Try signing out and back in to refresh your session. The core terminal functionality (command history, blocks, syntax highlighting) works without AI.
How do I use Warp offline or without signing in?
Warp works locally without signing in for basic terminal use. To use Warp offline: launch Warp → if prompted to sign in, look for "Continue without signing in" or "Use Warp locally" option. Local mode gives you blocks, syntax highlighting, command history, and themes — but not Warp AI, Drive, Notebooks, or team features. If your company has network restrictions blocking Warp's auth endpoints, you can configure Warp in offline mode via Settings → Account → Use Warp locally.
