Development branches with MySQL Vectors not serving

Jul 6, 07:18 PM โ€” Resolved Jul 6, 09:45 PM

All impacted branches are recovered. PlanetScale upgraded development Vitess branches with Vectors enabled from MySQL 8.0.x to 8.4.x. PlanetScale runs an internal fork containing support for PlanetScale's MySQL Vectors indexes. A bug in the 8.4.x version of our Vectors builds resulted in the upgrade immediately failing on startup. Because Vitess development branches only have one instance - the primary - impacted development branches did not have a primary during the impact window. The incident was resolved by reverting impacted branches to their previous MySQL version. PlanetScale will fix the bug in the MySQL Vectors 8.4.x build before re-attempting the upgrade at a later date.

There is an incident in PlanetScale GCP us-central1 region impacting Postgres database availability. We are actively investigating and will update as soon as we have more information.

May 14, 08:30 PM โ€” Resolved May 14, 09:03 PM

The changes we applied are effectively preventing further unexpected restarts to the high availability component shared by Postgres clusters. We have not seen further restarts to this component nor unplanned failovers in Postgres clusters since applying these changes.

PlanetScale Down? Try These Steps

  1. Check the official PlanetScale status page for announcements
  2. Try refreshing your browser or clearing cache
  3. Check your internet connection
  4. Try accessing from a different network or VPN
  5. Check social media for reports from other users

Is PlanetScale down for everyone or just me?

To determine whether it's a widespread PlanetScale outage or a problem specific to your account or location:

  1. Check the status indicator above โ€” if this page shows a major outage, it's confirmed global.
  2. Try a different device or network โ€” if it works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, it's likely a local network issue, not PlanetScale.
  3. Clear cache and cookies โ€” browser issues can mimic service outages.
  4. Check community reports โ€” Downdetector and social media will show whether hundreds of other users are reporting the same issue.
  5. Test the API directly (for developers) โ€” a raw request returning 5xx errors confirms a service-side outage; a 429 means you've hit your personal rate limit.
